Navigating Insurance
In the aftermath of wildfires, thousands of renters are impacted, often finding themselves underinsured or without any insurance coverage at all. KCRW has compiled an excellent resource specifically for renters affected by these disasters. If you know someone in need, please share this valuable information with them.
Obtaining your order inventory & history for insurance proof
When disaster strikes, like a fire or other loss of property, it can feel overwhelming to think about how to document what you’ve lost—let alone find the time and energy to do it. For those of us who rely on Amazon for everyday purchases, your order history can be a valuable tool in helping you build a list of items to present to your insurance company for replacement.
This process might seem like just another thing to add to your already full plate, but I’m here to help. If you need assistance with this administrative task, please reach out to me directly, and I’ll take care of it for you.
In the meantime, here’s a step-by-step guide to download your Amazon order history so you can access the information you need for your insurance claim. If you prefer a visual breakdown, here is the google doc.
Step 1: Log in to Your Amazon Account
Head over to www.amazon.com and log in with your username and password.
Step 2: Navigate to the Order History Report
Click on Account & Lists in the upper right corner of the page.
Scroll to the "Ordering and shopping preferences" section and select "Download Order Reports."
If you can’t find it, use the search bar to type in “Order History Reports.”
Step 3: Customize Your Report
Select the date range for the purchases you need to document (e.g., the past year, the past five years, or the entire time you’ve been an Amazon customer).
Choose the report type: For insurance purposes, the “Items” report is usually most helpful because it includes a detailed list of what you’ve purchased.
Step 4: Request Your Report
Click the Request Report button. Amazon will begin generating a report, which may take a few minutes to process.
You’ll receive an email when the report is ready, or you can refresh the "Order History Reports" page to see a download link.
Step 5: Download and Review
Download the report, which will be in a .csv format.
Open the file using Excel, Google Sheets, or another spreadsheet tool to view your purchase history.
Cross-reference the items in the spreadsheet with your memory, photos, or other records to ensure your insurance claim includes all the details it needs.
